I first visited this house in 1967 … and, truth be told, I’ve never been back in the house, although I have skimmed the gift shop a few times. I know it left a lasting impression on my sister.
My sister visited the house when she was 10 and it generated a lifelong interest in the Civil War for her. I’ve heard men pooh pooh the story, but it generates a real sense of identification for many young women.
