The Civil War in the Public Schools … Really?

I’m all for finding new ways to engage primary school students when it comes to history … but this?

True story: when my daughter was in kindergarten, I sent her to school on April 9 with an image of the surrender at Appomattox for show and tell. She showed the picture to her teacher, who smiled and said, “And there’s General Grant!”

Rebecca fixed her with a stare. “He wore the blue uniform.”

 

That about sums it up.
