Just in case you haven’t read the text of a much-talked-about commencement speech delivered at Wellesley High School (those New Englanders strike again), here it is.
We all know how hard perfection is to achieve. 18-1.

I came across this earlier today. Blunt and to the point… and a good dose of realism…
What Bill said – especially to entitled little Wellesleyites. Half of them are probablty in therapy as a result of this…
So long as their parents pay for it.
Most of them can probably just line up junior with the one they’re already using (full disclosure: I’m from Needham).
I honestly wonder where the these people live. My students don’t get science fairs, or rides to soccer practice, or some sort of bath of ego boosting, or anything. Whatever parent is around gives them the back of his hand, or sheer indifference.
The sexist shit in front is irritating too. He probably watches the wedding reality shows. My students struggle over the finish line. Its the biggest moment of their lives. The “you aren’t very special” is the fucking message they get twice a day every other day the entire lives.
Depends on the high school and the surrounding neighborhood. Clearly not all high schools are like this … but I’ve seen it in cases where affluence and entitlement reign.
I’m sure of two things: first, some people will try to convey the same message next year. They would like this sort of attention. Second, someone will pick the right place to offer a counter message next year, because, as you say, different circumstances lead to different experiences.
You often see the result in college, because things are different there.
