Perhaps in the universe where Spock has a beard.

Hmm, was the insult southern heritage suppose to be a good thing? That is how I took it as being a claim that they are the most critical of their history, which of course they are not. Sheldon is too much a paradox for me.

I believe they often do a disservice to their Southern heritage because they take such a one-dimensional view of their ancestors. Aside from discounting slavery as the primary cause of the war, they overlook the goodly number of unionists who lived in the South, as well as the infighting between Southern states which threatened to derail the confederation. The huge desertion rates in the last year of the war are also not discussed. I bring these issues up not to tarnish their heritage, but to point out how complex and compelling Southern history is, and to note that, despite these obstacles, the CSA put up a hell of a fight. Why not embrace the whole complicated story?

    Mississippi says yes:

Instead of attempting to rationalize our ancestors’ fight to perpetuate human bondage, we should be focused on those aspects of our heritage that truly justify Mississippi exceptionalism.

They damage Southern heritage by reducing it to fealty to the Confederacy of 1861-65 and its symbols, and promoting a false historical narrative to make that possible.

And in the process they make all Southerners look bad through their self-professed representation of Southerners.
