Southern Heritage doesn’t need to be saved, it needs to be savaged.

It actually read rather well until the phrase, ” War of Northern Aggression” was used and then the driveling diatribe began.

  3. Sal Litvak June 17, 2013 / 10:42 pm

Well, at least they won the “piece.”

I don’t care what she says as much as what she looks like in the swimsuit competition. Do they still do that? If not, I don’t think it matters what she thinks. I speak for all Northern and Southern men.

      Not the gay ones. 😉

Oh, where to begin? Let’s first note that there were only 11 states that joined the Confederacy. Missouri and Kentucky did not do so. Then shall we just note that the whole piece smacks of Lost Cause ideology which was then smashed into modern political rhetoric? It’s all there. The usual claim that the South was following the Constitution, the ignoring of the fact that blacks were slaves, that the North was the aggressor (poor pitiful me), how the North abused the South, and how the federal government is oppressive today. In short, just a bunch of bull crap that seeks to cry about how this person’s ideas are not the ideas of the majority of Americans.
I especially love the common theme that “people are waking up” to what the government is doing. They did wake up and voted for a different type of president in 2008 and 2012. This idea that the people are waking up is another attempt….actually the whole damn article is another attempt to continue on the US vs. THEM rhetoric so highly valued by Lost Causers.

Keep in mind this is coming from Clint Lacy, who used his old blog, Across Our Confederation, that he used to bill as “your voice in the Sons of Confederate Veterans,” to engage in all sorts of open race-baiting and general culture wars screeching, like when he complained that a fiery NASCAR crash at Daytona was the inevitable result of letting non-white, non-Southern drivers into the sport. He also thinks the Sons of Union Veterans is an agent of intolerance, alongside Communists and the New Black Panthers, and that Rick Santorum is just like Hitler.

    Good times!

Andy, you’re looking old. I guess all that self-hating and turning your back on your own people sure does take a toll huh?

      • Brooks D. Simpson June 18, 2013 / 1:22 pm

I see you don’t disagree with his characterization of you. Good enough.

        • Andy Hall June 18, 2013 / 1:56 pm

          Lacy’s done with apologies.

          • Brooks D. Simpson June 18, 2013 / 2:28 pm

Well, at least he identifies himself … I see where someone not so willing to confront me nevertheless has a great deal to say about my motivations concerning this blog entry. Can’t wait to hear his excuses now (and no, it wasn’t you who told me about this, just for the record).

  7. Talmadge Walker June 18, 2013 / 12:35 pm

Sounds like he just needed an excuse to rant. I know lots of people who would disagree with what she said, but what do phone records have to do with southern heritage?

  8. aldermanlacy June 18, 2013 / 3:08 pm

The paneling on your blog background looks older than your suit Brooks….lol

    • Brooks D. Simpson June 18, 2013 / 3:11 pm

I’m sure you think this is an effective retort, such as it is. Are all defenders of Confederate heritage as childish as you? Are you the best they can do? Do you think the folks you claim to represent would be impressed by this sort of tripe? We’ll see.

Too bad about your failed interest in becoming mayor. Guess your colleagues knew you well enough to seek an alternative.

      • aldermanlacy June 19, 2013 / 11:35 am

Wow Brooks you are very sensitive about your paneling…lol

        • Brooks D. Simpson June 19, 2013 / 11:45 am

We’ll see, Mr. Lacy. How are things in Marble Hill? Guess being ignored in your bid for mayor must really hurt.

Maybe it’s because you endorse tax fraud.

          I found this most amusing.

Lacy said, “I thought since these guys couldn’t stand up for themselves, I thought I would come stand up for them for a while.” Lacy has traveled as far as Memphis, Tenn. to stand up for confederate soldiers since “they are dead and can’t stand up for themselves.”

Thank goodness they aren’t Lost Cause zombies.

  9. Corey Meyer June 18, 2013 / 6:21 pm

Ah good old Clint Lacy. Be careful Brooks if you really get under his skin he will call you in the middle of the night and bring your children into the mix like he did mine.

    • Brooks D. Simpson June 18, 2013 / 6:36 pm

Then I’ll take appropriate action … and the folks back in Missouri will learn something about their alderman.

  10. Jimmy Dick June 18, 2013 / 7:00 pm

Wonder if he is one of those Tenth Amendment folks here in Missouri who constantly lie about history and the Constitution?

  11. TF Smith June 18, 2013 / 7:25 pm

The “false flag” suggestions about Sandy Hook would seem to sum up this individual’s life as a tragic waste of carbon…

And from my own particular slice of education through doing, not understanding the difference between the 6th Marines and the 6th Marine Division is another window to the writer’s depth of knowledge.

    Semper Fi, you all…

I am not in favor of the mass surveillance, but chalking it up to Heritage, Federalism and the Northern Mindset is bullshit.

    • aldermanlacy June 19, 2013 / 11:39 am

      It’s all Lincoln’s fault. What a shame.

  13. aldermanlacy June 19, 2013 / 11:38 am

Ah Come on Corey. Don’t be that way I just wanted to talk to you and Google had you living at that address. It hurt when I tried calling the cell number you gave me only to find out you didn’t want to talk to me. There’s just no civility in this world anymore.

    • Brooks D. Simpson June 19, 2013 / 11:50 am

In an effort to restore some of it, off you go to the spam bin. See ya!

While I don’t agree with his rhetoric — that the American education system has been “hijacked … distorted, manipulated and censored” — he does touch a nerve with me — that large pieces of American history, which define us as a nation and as a culture, are no longer taught in public schools. The Revolutionary War, the history of the Constitution, the Civil War, the Louisiana Purchase, the great westward movement of the 19th century, our treatment of American Indians, WWI and the Depression are simply not covered. Why? Because they’re not on the state assessment test. And it’s not just No Child Left Behind. Here in Michigan it’s the State Board of Education and numerous “committees” who have determined what should and should not be taught. Here and there a teacher with a particular passion for — let’s say the Civil War — manages to slip it in.

I find it interesting that U.S. History when I was in high school managed to get up to WWII. Now we generally start there. Go through the halls of a public high school and ask juniors and seniors (as I have), “Who was Robert E. Lee?” or “Who won the Battle of Gettysburg?” or “What do you know about slavery in the 19th century” and you’ll get blank stares. If it ain’t on Facebook, Dancing with the Stars, American Idol or Who’s Got Talent, they don’t know and they don’t care. Case in point.

Last fall, Pete Taylor and I spent a week in the Shenandoah Valley. One of the places we visited was Berkeley Springs. You all know — the hot baths, George Washington’s bathtub, Stonewall Jackson’s Romney Campaign — right? Here’s a family — mom, dad and 3 kids, the oldest in junior and senior high school. From the oldest. “Why do we have to come see this old junk?”
