Another Denunciation of the League of the South … and Virginia Flagger Favorite Matthew Heimbach

Some people don’t like the League of the South. As this well-placed observer put it:

It’s focus has shifted from scholarly arguments and the defense and preservation of our culture to a very radical, in your face approach and the focus is very racial, their following cult-like.

The same observer took pains to single out that favorite of so many Virginia Flaggers, Matthew Heimbach, who argued:

To attempt to placate the ravenous anti-Tradition media, a group of Southerners has decided to swallow the multicultural agenda hook line and sinker. In a bizarre form of Orwellian doublethink, Rainbow Confederates believe that Southerners were racial egalitarians, generations ahead of those hate filled Yankees, and our nation was secretly going to be formed based upon a multicultural roadmap to equality and unicorns.

That notion is simply unacceptable to this critic of Confederate heritage advocates.

Isn’t it sad when friends have a falling out?

Never said I was a critic of activists, just how the League is going about it and to call Mathew Heimbach a favorite of the Virginia Flaggers is inaccurate. You seem to take a lot of “creative liberty” with your coverage.

    • Brooks D. Simpson November 12, 2013 / 3:56 pm

Ah, so your are simply criticizing their approach, not the substance of their racism. Guess you think they should be quieter.

The association between the Virginia Flaggers and Matthew Heimbach has been clearly documented. That can’t be said about a lot of the … material … you post. But at least we now know that perhaps you have more in common with the folks you criticized in your post when it comes to core beliefs. Good enough for me.

      Thanks for stopping by.

“At the time I was in the League there were plenty of accusations and finger-pointing that we were a “hate-group” mainly by the Southern Poverty Law Center ( who in my opinion is a hate group unto themselves). There was no evidence to support this claim, in fact we spent much time educating the public here in Missouri about the real reasons for the War Between the States and the stories of the men who fought against the Federals here ( some like Quantrill scout John Noland were black). It was never about race it was about freedom and states rights.” As you say Prof., “It’s not about history, it’s about heritage.” I call it living in a fantasy world.

    • Brooks D. Simpson November 12, 2013 / 4:01 pm

Mr. Lacy is not bound by notions of historical accuracy when it comes to advancing his beliefs.

    • Thelibertylamp November 12, 2013 / 8:23 pm

Brad, so what you are saying is that those facebook rumors about Michael Cushman are true?

      • Brad Griffin November 13, 2013 / 10:58 am

It’s just a few trolls who hate Cushman because of his power and influence in the League.

You know Matty and his pals at the TYN were speaking at a Nazi rally this weekend.

If you scroll down the bottom of the article the top right hand photo is Matty at the microphone.

The website is set up kind of weird, you have to click on the photo and scroll up to see it enlarge.

There are some after rally photos of Matty with the Nazi gang in a group photo standing proudly in front of a flaming Swastika. Let me know if you want it, it’s a bad photo because it was taken by a Nazi and they have the artistic ability of dead rats, but still a photo.

    • Thomas November 13, 2013 / 5:16 am

No, no, no, no, no…. They were just having BBQ and hanging out with like minded people again, like Dustin James Moore:

      Good times!

Now would probably be a great time for Brad and Michael to be more clear about how they feel about this, the impression I get is they’re still friends with Heimbach, maybe they’ll even go hang out and catch some BBQ together one day?

      • Thelibertylamp November 13, 2013 / 11:45 am

I am sitting on the edge of my seat to see how poor Brad reacts to Matty and Matty’s (Heimbach and Parrott) new BFF Craig Cobb.

Old Krusty the Clown Cobb tried to ruin poor Brad’s life on VNN forum a few years back when Cobb exposed his real name, posted the address of Brad’s parent’s home with photos of the house and even created a video with all this 411.

Yeah, Cobb is a real nasty piece of work, and did a lot worse to Brad than any of us antis would have.

And yet, Heimbach and Parrott are raising the old loon onto a pedestal and making him the new “it” guy.

Oh, the drama continues on As the Swastika Turns….

        • Brad Griffin November 13, 2013 / 12:53 pm

Craig Cobb is one of the biggest crackpots in WN land.

Yes, I remember that video he made about me at VNN Forum. He never figured out that he was harassing the wrong Brad Griffin who graduated from Auburn. I’ve never lived in the Atlanta area. My parents have never lived in Atlanta either.

          • Thelibertylamp November 14, 2013 / 11:11 am

I know, we are all having way too much fun with it. Meanwhile Krusty the Cobb Clown is bleaching his hair and trying to appear as “Aryan race” as drug store bought Miss Clarol will allow him to be.

          • Brooks D. Simpson November 14, 2013 / 11:17 am

Here’s the real question, however: aren’t the differences between Brad, Michael Givens, Matthew Heimbach, Connie Chastain, and the Virginia Flaggers simply tactical? Do we really think they entertain substantial differences when it comes to core beliefs, including racial attitudes? In fact, Brad’s the only one who has publicly placed some distance between Heimbach and himself, although I hear that Givens claims he does not know who Heimbach is … although we have a photograph to suggest otherwise.

          • Thelibertylamp November 14, 2013 / 11:31 am

Brooks, I do not think I am going a tinfoil hat place on this when I say all of those people you have listed are connected and related on some level.

The Confederate fetish movement is very much like the dress up neo-Nazi movement.
Both groups have made up fantasies about that certain time period where there was racial inequality and domination.
They both work very hard at creating denial stories about the atrocities that were committed during those time periods.
They both like to dress up and cos play with their childish fantasies about being in those time periods and having that upper racial hand.
On Connie’s website is an ad to “help save white genocide in South Africa”. That campaign was started and is based with Aryan Nations, who BTW fly confederate flags during their rallies.
Other of these so called “flagger/Confederate patriots” support plugs for the Political Cesspool radio show, which is white supremacist.

I do honestly believe that while these “flagger/Confederate patriots” work so hard at their “the war was not about slavery” montra, that slavery is one of the primary attractions for their being in that movement because they want an upper hand in society based on their white skin color.

          • Brad Griffin November 15, 2013 / 11:28 am

Heimbach has a genuine interest in European fascism.

I’ve never cared for the WW2 era. I have clashed with Neo-Nazis like Craig Cobb and Greg Johnson for years now.

My own racial and cultural beliefs are derived from growing up in the Alabama Black Belt which has its own traditions.

          • Thelibertylamp November 15, 2013 / 5:11 pm

Brad, I know you’re not a WW2 Euro-Fascist fetishist, but that doesn’t make the pro-slavery American Confederate movement any better than it’s cos play dress up Nazi cousins.

If you don’t think people aren’t noticing what is happening with your Confederate Nationalist club and other American 3rd position movements and their wanting to connect to the modern Euro-Fascist movement that are trying to set root in Greece and Russia?

Already it has become evident for a while to people like Brook Simpson here and others on how well connected the neo-Confederates are with the rest of the white nationalist movement.

It doesn’t take long to see the the fanboi cooing over that shirtless photo of Putin and cheerleading for the Golden Dawn coming from the cryptic and not so cryptic nationalist fascists in this country.

Brook asked how well connected these common flaggers are with the more heavy hitting white nationalists. It’s obvious there is some behind the scenes footsie being played under the table.

My quest is to dig even deeper than that.

I (and others) am going to be watching every international connection you nationalists are trying to establish.

And I will end with this, I am a very compassionate person, I hate violence and bullying.

I have even gotten into behind the scenes arguments with fellow comrades on the use of physically violent tactics as ineffective and wrong compared to our venue of research and journalism.

But, when those two thugs got shot down in Greece I cheered my ass off!

It was the best news I heard in a long time. The thought of multiple bullets being pumped into the bodies of violent Nazi skinheads was a tiny pay back for the suffering of our family members who had survived the tortures of the Nazi concentration camps, and it made me rejoice.

It was good to see that the people will not allow that kind of evil grow politically and they are taking all measures to stop it.

          • Bill Rebel November 15, 2013 / 8:38 pm

Are you also going to analyze the connections that Southern Nationalists make with groups like the Vermont Independence Party (Socialist) and the Hawaiian Sovereignty Movement? Most of us could give a tinker’s dam about the “Euro New Right”.

          • Brad Griffin November 15, 2013 / 10:25 pm

Insofar as the League is concerned, there is far more interest in the European secessionist movements in Flanders, Scotland, and Catalonia. I believe the League itself was inspired by Lega Nord in Northern Italy in the 1990s.

Michael Cushman lived in Spain for several years. He’s still a big fan of Spanish culture. We spent most of 2012 writing about the cultural and historical connections (i.e., the plantation based seigneurial civilization) between the South and the Caribbean and Latin America. Cushman’s recent makeover of the League was inspired by Vlaams Belang.

At the last League conference, there was supposed to be an Afrikaner speaker from South Africa. I know the League is very interested in the fate and welfare of White Rhodesians and South Africans. There are obvious parallels between the South and Southern Africa.

WNs are far more interested in Vladimir Putin and Golden Dawn than the League. When Golden Dawn was generating a lot of excitement among WNs, the League was more interested in the huge rallies and secession vote going on in Catalonia.

          • Brad Griffin November 15, 2013 / 10:32 pm

I think it is crazy to kill anyone for ideological reasons.

That’s one of the reasons why I have always taken such a dim view of Europe. There dozens of abstract ideologies over there which have ripped apart the traditional social fabric. Fascism is one example. There are many others going back to the French Revolution.

          • Brad Griffin November 15, 2013 / 11:12 am

I can’t think of anyone in the history of the “movement” who has made a bigger fool out of himself than Craig Cobb. That said, I don’t put much stock in the DNA test results. If it had come from a reputable company like 23andMe, I would believe it.

          • Thelibertylamp November 15, 2013 / 4:39 pm

Brad, I think it is entirely possible Cobb has a mixture of other races, there is no such thing as a pure race, especially in America. Cobb is a crackpot and a fool, but there are others who have done a good job of making themselves fools and crackpots.

There was Vonnie, Schoep, McBride, Herrington and of course John De Nugent, not to mention all the hilarity and antics from I could continue the list and go on and on, because the reality is it is a movement of crackpots and fools on various levels.

    • Brad Griffin November 13, 2013 / 11:13 am

I’ve known about it for two months, lamp.

Needless to say, we thought speaking at the NSM rally was a terrible idea from the beginning. Dr. Hill pressured him not to do it. He decided to go ahead and do it anyway though. We didn’t know it was a “Kristallnacht” commemoration rally either until the media explained why they chose that date.

As for the swastika burning with the “Aryan Terror Brigade,” no one had any idea he had done that either until the ADL published the photo on their website. That’s why he was kicked out of the League and told not to come to the Murfreesboro rally.

The Matts do what they want to do. That’s all there is to it.

      • Thomas November 13, 2013 / 1:06 pm

It seems this is all about optics. Everybody still wants to be friends, but no one wants anyone to know they’re still friends. There have been quite a lot of statements from certain people about how this or that it “looks bad”, and being associated with this “racist” image is bad for certain organizations, but not really any condemnation from the same people. It’s great for people to say that participating in an event with the NSM is a bad idea, it’s not so great for the same people to say the reason it’s bad is because it will hurt membership. Makes it look really disingenuous for certain people’s concern to lie solely in membership numbers and not in coming down on the side of condemnation of blatant hatred.

The NSM has denied the Kristallnacht connection, but there is some proof that exists that says that’s not true. These guys are Nazis and no one should be surprised by what Nazis think.

      • Thelibertylamp November 13, 2013 / 4:39 pm

there is a photo of Matt Parrott helping them assemble and erect the flaming swastika on the NSM website.

Now, I still find it hard to believe that Parrott is a straight up Nazi, but since the recent ventures of he and “Lonesome Rhodes” Heimbach, it appears that their judgements have become reckless.

And about Heimbach, unlike Parrott, I do believe that chubby “face in the crowd” IS a straight up Nazi.
We all know about that when his Nazi fetish became clear when he was running around with Youth for Western Civ.

Brad, you have come a long way, you got yourself in better health, you have a new bride and you still stand a chance of having a decent life ahead of you.

Doesn’t this insight about your “friends” and their sociopathic Nazi ties mean anything to you?

Don’t you find cos playing Gone With the Wind just a little bit stale and moldy at this point?

Maybe t’s time to grow up and move on, Brad, go get a good job raise a nice big family, and don’t look back…the high sodium content will bring down your health again…

    “It’s focus has shifted…”

No, it hasn’t. It’s *marketing* has shifted, but the focus (if the contextual meaning of that word in this instance is accurate) is as it always has been.

I spent too much time (and suffered too much harassment because I didn’t agree with one of their interpretations about a Civil War soldier) in the 90s dealing with the political agenda these people pursued under the guise of historical truth. Watching these re-branding attempts that seek to paint the LoSers as some organization full of well-meaning history buffs makes my bile flow.

    • bdhamp November 13, 2013 / 10:28 am

Pardon my typos. The whole Its/it’s thing will be my downfall. I am sure of it.

  5. Matt Parrott November 16, 2013 / 10:41 pm

Liberty’s shtick of appealing to white wing activists to re-prioritize their private lives is a stroke of genius. Remind us that our work imposes a tremendous burden on our private lives…and it practically sells itself!

He’s actually part and parcel of the machine that makes life so miserable for us, so there’s a sadistic edge to the whole thing. Well played, good cop.

His impressive intel work on my private life is a couple ticks behind, so he misses the mark with his appeal to me. But the political craftsmanship is commendable.

It’s a shame that I attended the NSM, klan, and skinhead events. I was || close to being respected and accepted in mainstream political circles, but then I went and screwed it all up with that bonehead (no pun intended) move. Next time I’ll be sure to follow the SPLC and Lamp’s advice about the dreadful seriousness of being photographed with people who’ve been photographed with people who’ve shared and liked offensive memes on Facebook.

    • Thelibertylamp November 17, 2013 / 10:08 pm

Matt … Matt …Matt… stop playing the victim in all this. I have told you over and over that for years nobody paid any attention to you until now. We left you alone while you played with the C of CC, but the recent changes in your life have driven you into this reckless spree.

I wasn’t trying to reach out and advise you because I wanted to hurt you, it’s because I see redeeming qualities in you and I really was trying to stop you before things had gotten this far.

But here you are, and things are getting too far. You can hate me like a mixed up adolescent hates their parent because their parent keeps ragging on their no good friends. The parent isn’t doing this because they are evil, they do it because they are being caring.

Matt, your friends are assholes and idiots and the crap you are doing is going to mess up your life in a permanent way.

I actually want to help you because, goddam it, you’re smart and you also have more humanity than most of scum you hang around with.

The problem is, you have been floundering in that cesspool so long all you can see is the bad in everyone.

Yes, I want to see Brad out of the movement. He is younger than you and is just starting his family out.

Do you want Brad to be where you are now 10 yrs from now?

Cobb is rotting in a jail right now because he is a friggen nutcase, as is Bill White, Matt Hale and several other of the movement extremists,… they are all rotting in jail.

Matt, I don’t want to see you or Brad in that position. I don’t give a crap about your Lonesome Rhodes buddy or Buhls, but goddammit Matt, you and Brad did not start out as bad guys, but now look at you.

Okay, my school guidance counselor rant is over. You know how to email me if you want to talk.
