Who reads this forum and has an iq above 75, and is honest and sane, does not know that slavery is wrong. But in 5 minutes of just moving our gums up and down, we cannot clearly explain the road from biblical time to 1867, )when the North by the way, 2 years after the South freed their slaves, freed those held in the North) and today in 2013 just make this issue so black and white, no pun intended.
We in America, slowly and methodically engaged into the slave trade gradually, as a normal course of how things were done from the time the folks landed in Jamestown Virginia and colonized this land.
It was how things were done, and it was done up and down the country as the country grew.
Northern towns and cities established manufacturing, and as machines took over manual labor slaves were not used, in the South, farming had no machines to pick cotton, plant corn, cut hay, ect.
As H.V. Trayvick Jr. states in his outstanding book ” Empire of The Owls ” I highly recommend that you buy and read it, slavery was clearly going to end of it’s own accord, and the reason was economics. When you hired a workman, you paid him for the work he did, he worked harder and was much more efficient than a slave. At the end of the day, the workman went home, you did not feed him, clothe him, or house him and his wife and children for life.
So as machinery was developed, Northerners wanted no more slaves, and tried to pawn them off to the South. The South in 1860 still needed them on the large farms and plantations if they were to succeed. And by the way, did you know that many Black people owned slaves, and also did you know, that the Liberal photos of the slave with all the whip scars on his back and such, was NOT THE NORM,
IT WAS RIDICULOUS TO DAMAGE YOUR SLAVES, YOU DEPENDED ON THEM, THIS IS ANOTHER NORTHERN LIBERAL SLANDER.
Again, Slavery was and is wrong, but if you had been raised up as a child in the 1700-1800’s you likely would have been involved in this and not have given it a second thought.
It is so wrong, to stand on 2013 ground, and to be so perfect as to denounce those folks who owned slaves as terrible people, as they were mostly very good people.
In time, machinery that did not eat, versus the cost of keeping generations of offspring from your slave families for life would soon have made slaves impractical, and along with the increased knowledge of it not being right, it would have ended, and many lives saved, but POLITICS, AND LIBERALS, who fanned the flames, are guilty of 500,000 deaths and a million more injuries, and terrible suffering.

You also should look into the poor houses maintained by each county. Use the same time machine to go back and ask George Washington. He was on the board of one prior to the Revolution.
Use the same machine to ask James Madison about the Tenth Amendment. His definition of it (he wrote it) differed significantly from the modern conservative rewriting of it.

Note that last clause, “or to the people.” The ultimate source of power is from the people of this country. If they decide that the federal government is correct and not a state government, then that is the decision regardless of that state government’s choice. That also works vice versa. To that end, the people elect the President, the senators and the representatives. They then represent us in accordance to the Constitution. The issue of federalism will always be a bone of contention and rightfully so. The nature of the balance will ebb and flow, but the Founders made it crystal clear when they developed the Constitution that the federal government would be supreme over the state governments.
Just out of curiosity what college did you learn about American History in? I have a feeling that if I asked the professors their answers would differ from your post.
