Really? Or, A Case of Selective Memory

Sea Raven Press tells us:551411_587775377962835_911259523_nI note that this was never an option given to the enslaved. Indeed, if they tried to leave it some people did everything they could to bring them back by force backed by the federal government.

You would think a publisher of history books would understand that.

“We carry popular family-friendly books for all ages on the American Civil War (from the South’s perspective).”

And that’s the point. They publish heritage, not history.

    • Ken Npe December 20, 2013 / 8:40 am

The publisher also sells quite a bit on pre-Christian, DaVinci-Codish Goddess worship, like the one about Princess Di as the modern incarnation of the moon goddess. This frankly was not a part of my southern heritage at Big Spring Baptist Church..

If only you would tell the whole truth, but then again, if you did then you would reveal things that you wish to protect, LIBERALISM, AND THE WISHES OF THE DARK SIDE.

Who reads this forum and has an iq above 75, and is honest and sane, does not know that slavery is wrong. But in 5 minutes of just moving our gums up and down, we cannot clearly explain the road from biblical time to 1867, )when the North by the way, 2 years after the South freed their slaves, freed those held in the North) and today in 2013 just make this issue so black and white, no pun intended.

We in America, slowly and methodically engaged into the slave trade gradually, as a normal course of how things were done from the time the folks landed in Jamestown Virginia and colonized this land.

It was how things were done, and it was done up and down the country as the country grew.

Northern towns and cities established manufacturing, and as machines took over manual labor slaves were not used, in the South, farming had no machines to pick cotton, plant corn, cut hay, ect.

As H.V. Trayvick Jr. states in his outstanding book ” Empire of The Owls ” I highly recommend that you buy and read it, slavery was clearly going to end of it’s own accord, and the reason was economics. When you hired a workman, you paid him for the work he did, he worked harder and was much more efficient than a slave. At the end of the day, the workman went home, you did not feed him, clothe him, or house him and his wife and children for life.

So as machinery was developed, Northerners wanted no more slaves, and tried to pawn them off to the South. The South in 1860 still needed them on the large farms and plantations if they were to succeed. And by the way, did you know that many Black people owned slaves, and also did you know, that the Liberal photos of the slave with all the whip scars on his back and such, was NOT THE NORM,
IT WAS RIDICULOUS TO DAMAGE YOUR SLAVES, YOU DEPENDED ON THEM, THIS IS ANOTHER NORTHERN LIBERAL SLANDER.

Again, Slavery was and is wrong, but if you had been raised up as a child in the 1700-1800’s you likely would have been involved in this and not have given it a second thought.

It is so wrong, to stand on 2013 ground, and to be so perfect as to denounce those folks who owned slaves as terrible people, as they were mostly very good people.

In time, machinery that did not eat, versus the cost of keeping generations of offspring from your slave families for life would soon have made slaves impractical, and along with the increased knowledge of it not being right, it would have ended, and many lives saved, but POLITICS, AND LIBERALS, who fanned the flames, are guilty of 500,000 deaths and a million more injuries, and terrible suffering.

Todays Liberals continue fanning the flames, telling lies, getting the unwise to support their dishonest
plans, Obama- o- care, ect. ect, and the ignorant, those who are lost and are led by evil continue.

Thank you for sharing your perspective … and for following the blog.

    • B Parks December 20, 2013 / 9:29 am

Actually, Jerry, you make Connie Chastain look sane so let’s dissect your rant…you are wrong on so many levels I can hardly keep up so I will let your own words condemn you.

Top 5 reasons Jerry is obviously a racist-revisionist with the intellectual understanding of history equivalent to a child:

      1. “..things that you wish to protect, LIBERALISM, AND THE WISHES OF THE DARK SIDE.”

      2. “When you hired a workman, you paid him for the work he did, he worked harder and was much more efficient than a slave.”

      3. “did you know that many Black people owned slaves, and also did you know, that the Liberal photos of the slave with all the whip scars on his back and such, was NOT THE NORM,”

      4. “It is so wrong, to stand on 2013 ground, and to be so perfect as to denounce those folks who owned slaves as terrible people, as they were mostly very good people.”

      5. “Today’s Liberals continue fanning the flames, telling lies, getting the unwise to support their dishonest plans, Obama- o- care, ect. ect, and the ignorant, those who are lost and are led by evil continue.”

Once again, this has to be a put on. There is no way anyone can be that detached from reality and still know how to work a computer. Please reveal that this is a joke and we can all have a good laugh with you – instead of at you. If this is legit, get yourself some medication FAST before the guys in white coats come to take you away. You have a terribly disturbing and distorted view of the world – BOTH then AND Now.

And if you can’t afford mental health benefits, great news, President Obama has made it available to you. Sign-up today!

      • Jerry December 20, 2013 / 1:36 pm

Is this the extent of you intellectual incapability?

You offer no facts, no real history as I have, so go back in the clubhouse and write something on your etch-a-sketch.

    • Corey Meyer December 20, 2013 / 10:22 am

      Jerry,

How does anyone with even a casual interest in the Civil War ever come to utter this statement?…

“1867, )when the North by the way, 2 years after the South freed their slaves, freed those held in the North)”

What is the source of this information…Sea Raven Press or Pelican Publishing?

  4. Talmadge Walker December 20, 2013 / 8:38 am

I’m not pointing to anyone in particular but I thought the Virginia educational system was better than that.

    • Jerry December 20, 2013 / 1:36 pm

Ditto, same reply as to the earlier moron.

  5. B Parks December 20, 2013 / 8:40 am

If THIS guy represents ‘them’ then I am even more proud to be a ‘liberal’ ‘Marxist’ who supports ‘the dark side.’ Seriously Jerry, did you even read what you wrote? You sound like one of those Area-51 Conspiracy paranoid schizos who builds bomb shelters in their back to yard to prepare for the heather Yankee apocalypse. This is a joke right? You cannot be serious. (These people are freaking cartoon characters!)

    • Jerry December 20, 2013 / 1:38 pm

Again, 8 words from the brain, how long did this take to compose.

    • Jimmy Dick December 20, 2013 / 2:37 pm

You have to realize people like Dunford (either the younger or the older of the two; I’m not which one is posting) are proud to be from a state like Virginia that just elected a Democratic governor, lieutenant governor, and attorney general. I’m sure Jerry threw a victory party that night for all three of them and is still giddy with joy over their victories against conservative extremists who might want to alter history textbooks to mislead students with erroneous information based on a positive Lost Cause belief structure.

      • Thelibertylamp December 20, 2013 / 6:25 pm

Well, if he didn’t I sure did. Obenshain’s concession made my week! I was doing the happy dance yesterday.🙂

  6. Schroeder December 20, 2013 / 8:50 am

The “dark side”??? Was that not in Star Wars? And why is the Affordable Care Act being brought up? Let’s stay on topic.

    • Thelibertylamp December 20, 2013 / 12:40 pm

Schroeder- I wear a lot of black because it’s chic and slimming, maybe that is what he is referring to?

    • Jerry December 20, 2013 / 1:39 pm

And last of all, for this B. Parks. WHAAAAAAT, ha-ha, anymore would confuse you.

  7. Jerry December 20, 2013 / 1:47 pm

I will now leave the site, having quickly absorbed the lack of boys and or women, who have any knowledge of the War between the states, the facts about slavery, and more important, all the factors
and known truths about the American condition and the lies, politics and manipulations that were
used to set the course before-during and after the War Between The States.

This site is full of Johnny come lately people who want to moan, bitch and complain, about whims, myths, and their own incorrect thoughts as they try to put together a whole sentence.

Go see a movie, get out your X-Box, and then whine and complain until the next football game or basketball game comes on, and when bored, try to enter into a realm of though you are not worthy of.

    • Brooks D. Simpson December 20, 2013 / 4:24 pm

That was quite an autobiographical farewell. You described yourself rather well.

    • BParks December 21, 2013 / 10:10 am

Jerry gets my vote for next year’s awards for the “Lamest Comebacks Ever” category. His replies are almost as bad as his original comments. Jerry, your historical statements are based on zero facts, much like your interpretation of modern politics. So glad to have helped turn VA blue and we are just getting started. YOUR version of America isn’t only dead, it never existed in the first place! Merry Marxist!

      • jerryd14 December 21, 2013 / 12:44 pm

        B.Parks,

I am doing what I said I would not do, continue into conversations online with people like yourself that
just makes noise, give opinions rather than facts,m and opinions are fine, if you say ” This is my opinion” but most of you on this site are of like mind, Liberal, Northern, and not interested in the truth about any of this.

I had hoped I would see fair objective honest people, makes no difference of geographical affection
or birth location as such, but, if we are just going to battle North versus South, with just opinions, with erroneous information, and lies, what’s the purpose, you are not going to fool me with a lie, and or just your guesses, and wishes, what happened, happened, the genie is out of the bottle and cannot be stuffed back in.

When people read your comments, they see a person who seems to be very Liberal, and is unhappy, and has no ties to the good side, moral christian values, and when they are in this position, they are for things that are of the dark evil side, Abortion, drugs, government healthcare, government to solve all your failures, government to give you a job, or to feed you, or to help you get off drugs, and on and on. THAT IS NOT WHAT OUR COUNTRY WAS FOUNDED TO DO, AND OUR FOUNDING FATHERS WARNED AGAINST JUST THESE THINGS.

This is all pertinent to this web site, one of the biggest disagreements was States rights, look over the 10th amendment, the Federal government under Liberals has tried continuously to control our every
act, and the states did not want this, and still most Southern states do not want this, and I do not want this, but you likely are in step with it.

So, you will not convert me to the dark side, and your likely reason to even comment is just to sling mud, argue and confuse things, you are an infant regarding history, if you are educated, ask for a refund, because it is not apparent that it helped you, please consider reading, learning, not guessing and wishing how things happened or why.

Goodbye, and now throw all of your pent up anger at me or at others, it matters not to me.

        • Jimmy Dick December 21, 2013 / 8:40 pm

Abortion? I’ve never seen a word on it written by a Founder. Drugs? Not sure about that one either. I do know they liked their alcohol though. Government healthcare? You mean the Founders didn’t believe in healthcare? http://www.scribd.com/doc/29099806/Act-for-the-Relief-of-Sick-DisabledSeamen-July-1798 Better get your time machine and go tell them they didn’t believe in it. You also should look into the poor houses maintained by each county. Use the same time machine to go back and ask George Washington. He was on the board of one prior to the Revolution.

Use the same machine to ask James Madison about the Tenth Amendment. His definition of it (he wrote it) differed significantly from the modern conservative rewriting of it.

“The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.”

Note that last clause, “or to the people.” The ultimate source of power is from the people of this country. If they decide that the federal government is correct and not a state government, then that is the decision regardless of that state government’s choice. That also works vice versa. To that end, the people elect the President, the senators and the representatives. They then represent us in accordance to the Constitution. The issue of federalism will always be a bone of contention and rightfully so. The nature of the balance will ebb and flow, but the Founders made it crystal clear when they developed the Constitution that the federal government would be supreme over the state governments.

Just out of curiosity what college did you learn about American History in? I have a feeling that if I asked the professors their answers would differ from your post.

        • BParks December 23, 2013 / 7:00 pm

I am a Chrisian and a liberal and I believe Jimmy Dick just schooled you. Now go back to your trailer and open a REAL history book. Then we will talk again. BTW: Your ‘side’ lost then and it’s still losing now. How’s it feel?
