The Big Bang Theory

Tatum CannonCan someone explain to me why all of these Virginia Flaggers and their supporters continue to fly the Confederate flag upside-down? I mean, I can see why someone looking at this image might deem it a call for help from someone in distress, but really?

Note: the barrel is empty.

I don’t find anything about Mr. Tatum to be frightening. I find him quite amusing. No doubt he’s a fine fellow.

Does that justify flying the Confederate flag upside down?

Maybe you just don’t know which end is up.🙂

Psssst – it’s side ways, turn it 90 degrees to the left, and take a look.
I’m going to take it down tomorrow and wash it, when I re-hang it I will pay closer attention to the stars. Oh well – life will go on !

I agree. The few times I’ve interacted with him over the internet he has seemed to me to be a good fellow. The photo looks like a joke photo to me, and I found it funny. I think that was his intent.

So what is “right side up”? How do you tell? Sometimes a square flag is flown, which is, I thought the official Confederate battle flag of the ANV, so except for the edge for mounting, there’s no “right side up”, right? Often used is the rectangular Confederate flag, then “right side up” would have the mounting edge on observer’s left, or top if hanging. Right?
What I think it curious is if it’s about remembering the Confederacy and its secession, its nationhood, why not use one of the national flags?
FWIW, I agree there’s nothing frightening about Mr. Tatum.
