More Drunk History … Civil War Era

Robert Smalls steals The Planter

Preston Brooks canes Charles Sumner …

Allan Pinkerton protects Abraham Lincoln …

I think they ought to tape this at the Reliance Mine Saloon in Gettysburg.

Hey, have you heard of Ireland and the 137th New York? You should look it up. It’s AMAZING!

These are hilarious. It’s nice to have a little levity now and then. Loved the ones on Lewis and Clark, Al Capone and the invention of Coca Cola.

For those who enjoy such irreverent “history,” there are a ton of these on YouTube.

You need to do one of these—and I love the idea of doing it at the Reliance!

Spielberg really missed an opportunity by not casting Patton Oswalt as Charles Sumner.

I spend my winters in Brooksville, Florida (HernandoCounty). The original name of the town was changed to Brooksville to honor Preston Brooks after the caning of Sumner. The place is crawling with “yankees” during the winter and I doubt if many people, locals or snowbirds, know or care about the origin of the name.

Why is the union ship flying the stars and bars in the Robert Smalls episode? : p
