    It is one thing to win a war. It is another thing altogether to win the peace. I think you gave hints to that reality in your essay on Grant. It will be interesting to see how social media will handle the history of the reconstruction, if they indeed handle it at all.. On the 200th anniversary of the Battle of New Orleans a Facebook SHP is making the claim that Kentucky militia including a number of free black men with their Kentuky long rifles made the difference at that battle. But the History Channel FB page also ran an article on the battle stating the KY militia was not well armed at all, and in the actual fighting turned tail and ran. Andy Jackson was not at all impressed and said as much in his official report on the battle…. All that to say “the gift that keeps on giving” finds it convenient to not only rewrite CW history but the history of the War of 1812 as well…. …and so it goes on and on and on…
