Goodbye To All That

This evening, by a vote of 94-20, the South Carolina House of Representatives voted to remove the Confederate Battle Flag flying on the grounds of the state capitol.

The vote follows a 36-3 vote yesterday in the South Carolina Senate.

Governor Nikki Haley has indicated she will sign the legislation into law.

Confederate Heritage Gives Way in Pensacola

Last night the Escambia County Board of County Commissioners voted 5-0 to confirm its earlier decision to discontinue display of the Confederate flag (in whatever form) outside the Bay Center. You may want to watch the proceedings here.

The West Florida Flagger(s) turned out in full force to protest this decision (go to the 47 minute mark of the video). That effort proved unsuccessful.

We will now see whether the West Florida Flagger(s) will take to the sidewalks to carry on the fight to defend Confederate heritage. It will be an interesting (and telling) test of that organization’s commitment to the cause. So far, we’ve had one blog entry¬†and scattered commentary on Facebook.

Somehow I doubt that will be enough.
