Confederate Heritage Gives Way in Pensacola

Last night the Escambia County Board of County Commissioners voted 5-0 to confirm its earlier decision to discontinue display of the Confederate flag (in whatever form) outside the Bay Center. You may want to watch the proceedings here.

The West Florida Flagger(s) turned out in full force to protest this decision (go to the 47 minute mark of the video). That effort proved unsuccessful.

We will now see whether the West Florida Flagger(s) will take to the sidewalks to carry on the fight to defend Confederate heritage. It will be an interesting (and telling) test of that organization’s commitment to the cause. So far, we’ve had one blog entry and scattered commentary on Facebook.

Somehow I doubt that will be enough.

Maybe I’ll get out my walker and join them. Oh, wait, my walker is out for repair.

Ms. Chastain refers to the removal of the flag as “cultural genocide.” I left a question on her site that she has not yet approved:

If taking down a flag is genocide, then what was the enslavement of black people?

Connie is a coward. She won’t answer you.

Chastain’s a keyboard warrior. She’s also skeered. Racists and bigots are like that.
