More Trouble in Flaggerland: Tripp Lewis Versus Karen Cooper

Over in Virginia Whine Country there’s trouble east of the Shenandoah Valley as well … and it’s not unexpected. After all, it’s been a contentious election year, and the nastiness of the campaign is reflected in the rather coarse contempt people display for each other on social media.

A case in point: a recent Facebook exchange between Virginia Flagger headliners Tripp Lewis and Karen Cooper. Lewis seeks attention far more than does Cooper, although Cooper’s not adverse to sharing her views with the media. We have no record of Cooper being arrested for Flagger-related activities: this is not the case with Lewis. Nor do we have any record that Cooper has been a part of any Flagger activities that have backfired: this is not the case with Lewis. Finally, we have no record of Cooper celebrating white nationalists as “good guys”: this is not the case with Lewis. But, as the following exchange suggests, those are not the only differences …

Lewis Cooper One

Oh, my.

Things got so bad that Cooper blocked Lewis. She explained that she didn’t disrespect people and that she would not let people disrespect her.

It was only a matter of time before certain Virginia Flaggers showed their true colors when it came to Karen Cooper. Note that Lewis now denounces her as an outsider who’s “handled” by Muslims.

It will; be interesting to see how Susan Hathaway and Connie Chastain sputter about this. After all, Chastain and Hathaway are always ranting about outsiders; Chastain’s made it very clear how she feels about Muslims; both, like Lewis, are supporters of Donald J. Trump’s candidacy … as is that “good guy,” Matthew Heimbach, whom Lewis has praised.

And so the Rainbow has cracked, and the pot of gold is shown to be fool’s gold. We could have told you that this was how it was going to turn out, Karen Cooper, but we doubt you would have listened. Just remember: being a defender of Confederate heritage and associating with people who deep inside reject you was your choice.

Remember when y’all marched together? Lewis, Heimbach, Cooper, Hathaway …

Oops ha ha
(L-R): Billy Bearden, Karen Cooper, Tripp Lewis, Susan Hathaway, and Matthew Heimbach.

Why, Chastain even designed a book jacket to celebrate it … Lewis and Heimbach up front, Cooper right behind Heimbach …)

(Connie Chastain didn’t know how to spell “foreword.”)

Note: we expect Susan Hathaway’s too skeered to comment on this, although we await her next declaration that she never reads what critics of the Virginia Flaggers say, complete with details of material she says she hasn’t read.

I’d never seen that book cover before. Thanks for that! It’s interesting to note that the title includes “Heritage Defenders of the Old Dominion” with Heimbach right below, smiling away. The Flaggers have never put any distance between themselves and an Alt-Right white supremacist like Heimbach. These are popcorn moments folks, better stock up.

Countdown to Chastain screeching in three … two … one …

Oh, she’s screeching alright. There could be a blog post or another statement from Susan claiming they are victims before this all blows over.

There was the time that Cooper made that rather spectacular scene during the city Council meeting in Charlottesville. I don’t know if that counts as a Flagger activity that backfired or not, but she’s maintained a much lower profile since then.

Thanks also for the cover of the book with CC Lesters at far left. That’s a helpful reminder that his trial in Broward County starts next month.

Oh, don’t you know that Chastain says that Lesters and the Flaggers had nothing to do with a certain matter … but she used this picture for her dust jacket. You decide: is she stupid, a liar, or both?

As for Cooper, I assume you mean this memorable moment.

Letters is still going to trial? I thought the charges were dropped? Guess I am going to need more popcorn…

The kidnapping charge was dropped against the mother, but I’m not sure about Lesters. She still has other charges though.

It is totally ironic that Tripp calls for traitors to swing at the end of a rope when his “heritage” is solely based on the largest act of treason in American history.
BTW Tripp your man supported removal of the Confederate Flag in Columbia, but alas this too might change considering his recent flips on other matters.

It’s unfortunate that Cooper has to put up with that nastiness, but my sympathy is a little bit limited. After all, she spent the last five years happily serving not only as a member, but as one of the most prominent public representatives of a group that has consistently embraced some of the nastiest bigots that the Commonwealth has to offer, and when called out on it, makes all sorts of excuses and rationalizations for them. It’s not like this should be a shock to anyone.
