The Irish Brigade at Fredericksburg: The Music Video

If you’ve ever wondered what it might look like if a metal band took on the American Civil War, I present for your consideration Iced Earth’s “Clear the Way,” commemorating the charge of the Irish Brigade at Fredericksburg:

Boy, you’re up on your Iced Earth. This just came out yesterday.

Interesting use of archival photos in the video. A new twist on the Ken Burns style.

    Iced Earth has really improved.

And they aren’t the first metal band to take on the Civil War. There’s a metal band called Civil War, which focuses on wars in general. They have a fantastic song about the USS Monitor, from the perspective of its designer, John Ericsson: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kaioXRzuroo

I didn’t know these guys were still at it. 15 years ago or so they did an album which included Gettysburg segments, IIRC. If the Irish Brigade had this one in the head phones they might have taken the wall at Marye’s.

Being of Irish descent, I am biased on this topic. I think that the lyrics are great but I would prefer an arrangement by a more traditional group like the Wolfe Tones or perhaps Derek Warfield. Maybe it’s a generational thing.

What’s the story with the very “feral” imagery?
