I enjoyed watching the class.
I was surprised that the students were not too upset when the topic of presidential truthfulness was discussed, especially when you brought up the WMD’s in Iraq. I would have thought that the students would have stronger feelings on this subject.
BTW I noticed you were attired in blue and gray, was this done purposely? Nice touch, LOL

Professor Simpson, I am a JKP fan, being a North Carolinian and graduate of the university. Recently downloaded to my kindle for not much cost “Political Biography of JKP”,2 vols. Are you familiar with the work and do you recommend it? I don’t want to read artifact knowledge, but am thinking just because it is more than 10 years old doesn’t necessarily mean it is stale.
It’s not a bad book, but it reflects the dominant historiographical emphases of its times, and it overlooks that Polk was able to avoid the consequences of certain of his acts by leaving office (and failing to continue his party in power).

OT – somebody should mention what appears to be an interesting essay in the latest SIU “Heartland” volume regarding Grant and the Rock not communicating well with each other before Nashville.

If anyone has an interest in the campaigns in the “west”, this series features well-researched and -written essays by authorities in the field, including our host. And to prove that he hasn’t simply been teaching or dealing with flaggers over the past year or so, this newest volume features the essay I mentioned in my first post.
I can’t believe those kids weren’t more engaged. Professor is by no means an unskilled lecturer. I am not around college students much. Are they stoned on Ritalin or need more Red Bull? I don’t remember it being that way in the 1970’s. I recall students challenging professors and asking for deeper explanations. That was an Honors Class. Privilege to be in what is essentially a Master Class with a highly regarded professional. like Professor Simpson, so don’t sit there numb.
