Some Sad Stories

It’s come to my attention that a commenter on this blog is a registered sex offender in his home state. Specifically, the commenter is charged with “using communications system to contact a minor.” This is confirmed on an official state registry of sex offenders.

I’ve decided that the commenter in question will not be allowed to comment on this blog.

Another past commenter was blocked a long time ago from this blog. People who are familiar with my relationship with this person know that I did not care for him personally, and he finally wore out his welcome here. He then turned to frequenting other groups, including one managed by our good friend Connie Chastain. Subsequently, he was arrested and charged with trafficking in child pornography.

I’ve never met either of these people.

Both of these stories are upsetting and nauseating. So is the news that Connie Chastain, who does Susan Hathaway’s “heavy hitting,” is now conducting background checks on commenters on this blog, much as several Virginia Flaggers went after individuals this past summer.

Chastain can’t get her facts straight, as usual, at least when it comes to me. She claims that someone I’ve despised for some time (and she knows this from a previous exchange on Al Mackey’s blog) is a friend of mine … although, in truth he spent a good deal of time on Connie’s chat group. But we can expect these sort of lies from someone who claims to be an expert in false accusations … after all, she makes them all the time. Of at least as much interest is that she’s now going into the background of commenters on this blog.

Connie adds that the commenters on this blog are not concerned about issues involving sex, pornography, and minors.

I’m sure there will be all kind of pedo enabling/defending at the Crossroads cesspool tomorrow…. NOT! They don’t care when somebody on THEIR side does it…

Crazy … ugly … or both? But let’s make this clear: she doesn’t think much of you.

Carl Roden followed up with some of his typically crude comments. He just likes to write fiction about sex between minors.

Of course, Connie claims she’s not responsible for the behavior of the commenters on her blog. But why should anyone be surprised by her brazen hypocrisy?

Or her brazen stupidity? After all, on December 10, 2013, she posted the following on Al Mackey’s blog:

There is no tie between the VaFlaggers and Matthew Heimbach any more than there is a tie between, say, Brooks Simpson and, oh, say, people who solicit minors, just because [XXX X’XXXX] posted on his blog.

And yet now she suggests there is a tie … which leads one to accept that she also now admits that there’s a tie between Matthew Heimbach and the Virginia Flaggers. Yet more proof that even the Flaggers’ spokesperson now confesses to the relationship.

(This post also shows that Connie Chastain was doing her background checks before the Confederate Heritage Follies series began to appear. Note that she ignored my response in her haste to conduct a smear campaign … ’cause she knows she can’t defend Confederate heritage on its merits.)

This is the person who Susan Hathaway says does her heavy hitting, and as Flaggers and their supporters have rushed to comment on this issue, we understand the connection. I just thought you should know how this associate of the Virginia Flaggers operates.

Restore the honor indeed.

Again, a sad story … and an example of what an outspoken supporter of the Flaggers plans to do to commenters on this blog.

As someone who has known you online for over a decade, Brooks, I can attest that the last thing anyone could honestly say about you and that person is that you are friends. Our little Inspector Javert from Pensacola needs to do a better job in her background investigations.

“Honestly” is the key word here. After all, this is Connie Chastain, who lies freely about me. That’s the sort of person Susan Hathaway uses to do her “heavy hitting.” Tells you a lot about the lack of integrity when it comes to the Virginia Flaggers. It will be quite a task to restore their honor.

Connie is opening herself up to a lot of lawsuits. If she starts making false accusations about people in order to deliberately affect their jobs she will find herself in court and liable for monetary losses. I do not expect her to understand what she is doing, but she needs to wake up before she finds herself behind bars. People do go to jail for this type of stuff.

Look, Connie Chastain doesn’t care about children. She doesn’t care about sex offenders. She seems to have an interest in posting images she claims she deplores as exploitation of women (she sure knows where to look). She promotes an author who writes about sex between minors. She’s written about minors being accused of indecent acts. That’s her world. She gathered this information, and then used it to attack this blog and its readers, with all the skill she could muster. All she did was to end one commenter’s participation. She acted out of malice and with the intent of “evilizing” those who post here (see what I just did?), and you know she won’t stop. That she badly fumbled in one case (with someone who posted on her discussion group and with whom she engaged) suggests that maybe she’s not very careful about who appears on her groups (she admits that she remained silent when presented with information about one of her commenters by another person who recommended him as a participant … that’s a story that’s not been told, obviously). She’s currently detailing her information-gathering practices as she prys into the world of posters she wants to attack. Recently her own commenters (as well as her own posts) betray homophobia and support for those who are homophobic … southern men and sweet southern boys. Her own bigotry has been highlighted, just as we’ve highlighted he tendency to lie and make false accusations that she is reluctant to retract.

That’s what the holiday spirit means at Backsass. And that’s the type of person Susan Hathaway of the Virginia Flaggers employs to help her with Flagger blogs and to do her “heavy hitting.”

Tells you all you need to know about the Flaggers … as if their embrace of Matthew Heimbach wasn’t enough.

Connie is obviously getting out of hand. I am actually starting to feel sorry for her as it is becoming apparent that she has way too much free time on her hands. Doesn’t she have a bunch of trashy books to write?

    • Brooks D. Simpson December 19, 2013 / 10:53 am

You miss the point. This is her ready-made excuse not to write.

The important thing to remember here is the difference between how Brooks is handling this vs. how the VA Flaggers handled their Heimbach problem. No comparison. As with any blog, no one is going to know the full background of everyone that comments or reads your blog. Nor is there any reasonable and easy way to check every single person out. It’s how you handle yourself when you find out about someone’s negative past. Do you deny? Make excuses? Seems to me Brooks has handled this with class, unlike how others handled similar problems.

Hey, the CIA is looking for a new contractor to do background checks on their employees….

  6. Rob Baker December 18, 2013 / 7:45 am

She a sad old bitter woman. She’ll defend anything, including Carl Roden’s fanfiction about high school age cartoons ‘canoodling’, as long as it fits her agenda to smear you.

Any of the veterans of StudyOfTheCivilWar and alt.war.civil.usa can attest to your antipathy towards Ray. I still vaguely remember the post where you ripped him a new one for his dishonesty … the drubbing was so brutal I almost felt sorry for him. Until I caught the news stories out of Boston, anyway.

    WTH is wrong with people?

    • Brooks D. Simpson December 18, 2013 / 9:40 am

Well, this is Connie Chastain, after all. Her disingenuous behavior and her dishonesty almost conceal her desperation. She’ll do her best to wriggle out of the news about making background checks and speak out of both sides of her mouth on a number of issues, but let’s recall that Susan Hathaway declared that she left the heavy hitting to her good friend and fellow Flagger. The pattern of behavior is obvious: in order to keep her job, Susan asserts plausible deniability, while leaving others to do her dirty work.

As for the accused child porn trafficker, I have nothing more to say. The commenter charged with communicating with a minor offered an explanation and freely admitted making a bad mistake, but I have to go with the official record.

What sickening news – but not surprising. I’m glad to hear that the perve is blocked – how disgusting this is.

Connie is ranting again and her devotees are piling on too. So much ignorance in one place is bothersome. These people represent everything that is wrong with this country. Freedom of speech should not apply to them.

    • Brooks D. Simpson December 18, 2013 / 1:29 pm

I disagree. Freedom of speech is something we should all value. Indeed, in this case we would not know how ignorant these people are without it.

In one of the cases under discussion, someone made a bad mistake, is paying for it, and it trying to move on and move forward. You would think that at this time of year people who profess to be Christians would understand the meaning of their faith, instead of showing an unseemly glee about the whole business. But we would never understand just how base these people are if they did not have the freedom to show us their character and how they practice the faith they claim to follow.

It’s not as if damaging personal information about some people in the Confederate heritage movement (including a story about a sex offender) doesn’t come into my inbox. I don’t see the point in going after them: why lower myself to their level? Chastain wasn’t interested in the welfare of children: she was just interested in playing the bully. Same with her chorus. Not that is should come as any surprise … but, again, it’s the freedom to express oneself that alerts us to just what sort of people they are.

Of course, maybe they are desperate to distract attention from their own foolishness. 🙂

      • BParks December 18, 2013 / 6:47 pm

You make a great point. They expose themselves and in doing so, alert us to their twisted mindset. I stand corrected.

        • Brooks D. Simpson December 19, 2013 / 10:58 am

Even the people at the Southern Heritage Preservation Group declined to put up with Connie’s garbage, because they knew it had nothing to do with defending Confederate heritage. And even the League of the South distanced itself from Flagger favorite and SCV award winner Matthew Heimbach. When such groups find Chastain and the Flaggers to be too extreme, that should tell you something.

I think you made the right decision. I don’t care what side of politics someone is on, a pedo is a pedo and it makes me ill.

Thank you for blocking this person!
